Warning Signs of a Pathological Process Include:

  • Red or white patches in the mouth
  • A sore that isn’t healing and easily bleeds
  • Thickening of the skin lining in the mouth or a lump
  • Trouble chewing or swallowing
  • Hoarseness or chronic sore throat

These warning signs can occur on the cheeks, lips, palate, tongue, face, neck or gum tissue around the teeth. You may not experience pain with pathology. Typically, oral cancer isn’t associated with pain. However, a patient who experiences facial or oral pain and does not know the cause could be at risk for oral cancer.

Self-Exams

The best way to check for oral cancer is to perform a self-examination every month. Don’t forget that your mouth is one of the most vital ways your body will warn you of a serious problem.
