Dr. Ahson

Dr. Imran Ahson, MD, DMD, lives and works in the greater Massachusetts/New Hampshire area. Originally born and raised in Florida, Dr. Ahson completed his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering at the University of Florida. During his time there, he worked extensively with the Center for Implant Dentistry, and created technology that assisted in implant design. He went on to complete dental school, medical school, and surgical residency at the University of Florida, as well as a fellowship in Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery at the Florida Craniofacial Institute. His training included extensive experience in the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery as well as craniofacial surgery; and has written and lectured nationally on various topics in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

In addition to working at MassOMS, Dr. Ahson is a Clinical Professor at Tufts University, and is passionate about using his skills to help underserved populations. He travels yearly to provide healthcare and cleft lip/palate surgeries in developing countries including Bangladesh, Guatemala, Pakistan, Thailand, and Ecuador.

Dr. Courtney is a Massachusetts native, raised in a family of dentists and periodontists, including those in his immediate and extended family. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Boston University and afterwards, attended Boston University’s School of Dental Medicine, where he received his DMD. While in dental school, Dr. Courtney participated in numerous research opportunities, including publications focused on the success and viability of dental implants in medically compromised patients and studies concerning salivary gland pathology.

Thereafter, Dr. Courtney completed his medical school training at Jefferson’s Medical College in Philadelphia, PA achieving his M.D. and continued his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program training at Thomas Jefferson University Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. During residency, Dr. Courtney engaged in significant research programs, including participation at the SLEEP conference where he promoted studies concerning management of obstructive sleep apnea. He also conducted interdepartmental lectures within the university hospital. Dr. Courtney continues to lecture within the dental community on sleep apnea to update current dental and medical professionals on management and treatment options. Following residency, Dr. Courtney pursued fellowship training with a focus on orthognathic jaw reconstruction, full arch rehabilitation with dental implants and reconstructive TMJ surgery in Charlotte, NC with Dr. Brian Farrell and his surgical team. 

Dr. Courtney endeavors to continue his career with an interest in full scope Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a focus on orthognathic surgery, trauma, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, obstructive sleep apnea and full arch rehabilitation with dental implants. Dr. Courtney is board certified and a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is also a member of ABOMS, ACOMS, ADA and in pursuit of joining the MSOMS.

Outside of work he enjoys spending time with family, golfing and biking.
